FAQs
Orders
What is your minimum order size?
Typically our minimum order quantity is around 3000 pieces. Depending on the request, this can be flexible.
I have an idea for a plastic package but I don’t see it on your website, will you still work with me?
Absolutely! We pride ourselves on customer service and package design ingenuity, we would love to work with you!
Do you have in-stock sizes of clear boxes?
Almost all of our clear boxes are custom-made to our client’s specifications. Occasionally we have “overruns” that may meet the needs of some clients. We do stock some DVD and CD point-of-purchase displays.
Do you make acetate boxes?
Acetate is a term that is still used to describe clear boxes, but acetate is not typically used as the material of choice. Acetate box is actually a broad term for clear box; the materials used in today’s clear folding cartons are actually PET, RPET, PVC, and PP.
Are the clear boxes made in North America?
Yes, all printing and box manufacturing is done in North America. Even the material we use is made here!
What printing and decorating methods do you use on the plastic folding cartons?
We have the capability to provide you with various forms of printing on your clear box, be it offset, silkscreen or screen printing, foil stamping, or embossing. With clear packaging, your options for decorating are almost endless! You can decorate with a more traditional opaque look or even translucent colors! If you really want to get noticed, we can add a fragrance to your clear folding carton!
Materials
What material thickness of PET, PVC, PE, and PP are you able to work with?
We are able to convert from 0.008″ up to 0.025″ for PET and PVC clear folding cartons. Our capabilities for PE and PP range from 0.014″ to 0.035″ thick.
What is PET?
PET stands for Polyethylene Terephthalate. It is a highly recycled polymer and is the same material that your standard water bottle is manufactured from. It is known for its durability and glass-like clarity. If you are looking for an acetate box, chances are that these days it is made from PET. PET is also referred to as A-PET. The “A” means amorphous.
What is R-PET or PCR-PET?
RPET is Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate and PCR-PET is Post-Consumer Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate. RPET means that there is recycled content in the material; the recycled content is typically post-industrial from the manufacturing process. PCR-PET means that the recycled content came from PET that has been used by the consumer, and then recycled. Essentially, turning water bottles into clear boxes!
What is TerraPETTM?
TerraPETTM is PET which is made from up to 30% sugar cane, a renewable resource.
Art Guidelines
What file formats do you accept?
To help accommodate as many people as possible, PTP accepts a range of different file formats for submission. These are limited to:
- PDF (Portable Document Format)
- AI (Adobe Illustrator)
- EPS (Encapsulated PostScript)
- ARD (ArtiosCAD)
Graphics and text designs (basically, any non-photographic content) are best submitted as vector-based PDFs, AI, or EPS. This will ensure your lines and texts are nice and crisp when printing. For best results, we recommend using the following preset to preflight your designs to Press Quality
What file formats and resolutions should pixel images in artwork be?
We recommend a resolution to be between 150-300 PPI. All photographic (pixel-based) content must be in the form of JPEG, PNG, or GIFs. Otherwise, other artwork made in vector-based platforms should stay as vectors (AI, PDF, EPS, SVG).
Do you have a minimum font size for print on packaging?
The smallest recommended font size is generally 8 pt and reverse print is recommended at 10 pt. In some cases some fonts may work as 6 pt and reverse 8 pt.
Can I send fonts & asset files with my layout?
Yes, you can send Adobe files with fonts and linked folders. However, if possible, we recommend sending fonts as converted to outlines and embedding all linked files.
What do the colors mean in your dieline structure layer?
Our dielines are exported from a packaging design software called ArtiosCAD. Black are registration and cut lines, red are creases, and blue lines are dimensions.
Can I flatten art with the dieline you provide?
No, please leave the dieline “Structure” layer on a separate layer. We have exported this dieline layer named “Structure” and it links back to the production file.
What bleeds do you recommend?
We recommend 0.125” or (1/8”) or 3.175mm outside bleed of rule outlines, however, the bleed onto the glue flap should only go past the crease 0.06” or (1/16”) or 1.5mm.
