Learn more about each of our box closure types and packaging styles to decide which option(s) meet your needs.
Gable Top With Handle & Greenleaf Overlap Lock
This clear, strong folding box is commonly used for retail and specialty product packaging where product security and visual appeal are essential. The triangular side creases fold in to form a gable top that features a carrying handle, which is seamlessly integrated into the overlap panel. To create a strong and secure closure, the two opposite-facing tabs of the greenleaf overlapping lock are inserted into the square aperture found on the back panel.
Auto Locking Bottom
This box closure style features a pre-glued base that allows the clear folding box to lie flat, and the bottom securely locks into place when the carton pops open. The glued flaps are automatically positioned to lock and close with exceptional strength, and the boxes enable rapid assembly as they eliminate the need for tape. Auto-locking bottom boxes are ideal for heavy items, such as electronics, candles, and bottles.
Center Hanger With Dagger Lock
This clear folding box is a retail folding box with a top closure panel that closes over the hanger. The hanger pulls through the center of the top panel, hanging in the middle at the top of the box. A tuck-in flap, called a dagger, tucks into the top of the back panel, providing a secure locking closure. This type of box is primarily used for hanging retail products on a display rack.
Corner Punch Out
This type of clear folding box features a corner punch-out that creates a filler space for holding products in place when it is pushed in. The punch-out is made by two parallel cuts that cross the box’s corner crease.
Dogbone Retractable Handle
This clear folding box features two cuts for inserting a dogbone handle, which is cut from the same material as the carton. These handles are applied manually and are a cost-effective option for businesses that require handles on their packaging solutions.
Full Seal Ends
A full seal end box is a secure, durable folding carton that features tuck flaps on both ends of the box. Once the flaps are folded in, the outer panel (swinging from the rear panel) is folded, and then the inner panel (swinging from the front panel) is folded in, creating an overlap that is glued shut on both ends using an automated sealer. These boxes offer excellent strength, stability, and tamper-evident security.
Greenleaf Bottom
This clear folding box can support a significant amount of weight and features a strong and secure greenleaf closure. The design includes a primary closure panel with two opposing tabs that are wedged into a square aperture on the overlap panel.
Greenleaf Overlap Lock
On top of this clear folding box is an overlapping greenleaf closure, which can also be applied to the bottom. The two tabs of the greenleaf overlap lock are inserted into the square aperture on the back panel for a strong and secure box closure.
Open Corner Lid
This clear box lid style acts as a dust cover and is best suited for rigid boxes, setup boxes, and other base types-such as cardboard and SBS boxes-that do not require a glued lid.
Standing Pillow Pack
This clear pillow box features a standard closure that remains in a flat position until the tuck flaps are closed. This creates a convex pillow structure, clearly distinguishing it from other straight-sided folding cartons. Legs and/or a hanging peg hole can be added for retail display applications.
Tuck Top / Straight Tuck
This clear folding box style works well with both side-loading and top-loading package designs. It features box closure panels on the top and bottom of the carton that swing from the front and tuck into the back.
Straight Tuck 123 Bottom
This clear folding box features a closure panel on the top of the carton that swings from the front and tucks into the back. The 1-2-3 bottom securely closes in three easy steps:
- Fold in the “U” flap.
- Fold in the side flaps.
- Fold in the tongue flap.
Clear 5th Panel Header Five Panel Hanger
This type of clear box features a basic hanger tab and is ideal for creating eye-catching retail packaging for impulse purchases. The oversized header card offers space for branding graphics and product information. These small product boxes are often used for packaging automotive parts, cosmetics, and household goods, placed on hooks or attached to strip clips.
Sleeve
This clear sleeve features open ends on both the top and bottom, sized to fit snugly over a product or another package.
How To Measure a Box
Now that you’re familiar with the main types of box closures and packaging box styles, here’s how to measure a box to ensure it fits your product properly. The first step is to orient the opening at the top and bottom, even if that is not how the packaging will be displayed. This makes it easier to identify where A x B x C are in relation to the box opening. Measure the dimensions as follows:
- A = measure the front panel from left to right
- B = measure the side panel from front to back
- C = measure the side panel from the top to the bottom
